TITLE: Siege and Storm (Grisha #2)
WRITTEN BY: Leigh Bardugo
PUBLISHED BY: Square Fish
VERSION I READ: paperback
(PLOT BY GR) Darkness never dies. Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land, all while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. But she can’t outrun her past or her destiny for long. The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling’s game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her–or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.
The second book was definitely a 4 stars but it lost half star with too many chapters about strategy and politics, it kind of lost me there but I definitely enjoyed it as much as the first. Even if Alina was a little to whiny in certain scenes and start to not even trust Mal. I mean MAL! Do you know Mal right? TRUST HIM.
And my feelings for their ship was all over the place. I almost exploded in tears on my way back to work. I CAN’T.
Siege and Storm was also the introduction of one of my favorite character of this trilogy: NIKOLAI. I loved him since the first time he got in the story. What I love the most in a man? SARCASM. He is such a sarcastic character that I couldn’t stop smiling when I read his lines. I really hope he will be in a lot of scenes in the last book too.
What I understood at the beginning of this book is that I really don’t like the Darkling! Don’t make me wrong he is a great and evil character but I don’t understand how people can ship him with Alina. Seriously? He is everything of wrong in this world: he is so freaking EVIL. He would kill an entire population just for POWER. ONLY FOR POWER. He always used Alina for her power and that’s it. He lied to her. He owned her. He is so wrong for her. HE IS FREAKING LORD VOLDEMORT IN A GRISHA WORLD. No, I hate him. And I really hope to watch him die, badly, in the next one.
And the last 50 pages or so are just MADNESS. It’s HELL, literally. We are in WAR! I can’t wait to read the last part of this story. OMG! I am so excited. I will definitely buy the Six of Crows duology nearby April. *o*
“You know the problem with heroes and saints, Nikolai?” I asked as I closed the book’s cover and headed for the door. “They always end up dead.”
